A few weeks ago I took part in a business exchange service called Pay It Forward, and organised by Amanda from Cheshire Ladders. The aim of Pay It Forward was for small businesses like myself to give something in exchange for something else.
There were lots of posts including mine, and myself and Jean from The Cake Jeanie (you can also find the Cake Jeanie on Facebook) decided to exchange. We agreed for me to photograph Jeans stunning cakes and show Jean how to make best use of the camera equipment she had in order to photograph her own cakes in the future while Jean offered to make me a cake for my Nan's birthday! Win win!
In order for my photos not to stand out, I opted not to use all my fancy lighting, as Jean wouldn't be able to re-create that style going forward. I simply used one of my DSLR's, a tripod and a pop up background - making use of Jeans stunningly light and airy kitchen.
Here are some of my photos of jeans fantastic cakes, with full length shots and details too.
Jeans masterpiece show stopper, and a few arty shots from me showing the kitchen to give a background to the photos.
When Jean asked me what kind of cake I'd like, I simply said just a small plain jam sponge, with a few flowers. What Jean made was absolutely fantastic, and the level of detail was impressive - way beyond what I had asked for. Needless to say all the family were hugely impressed, and my Nan loved it! Everyone commented how great it tasted and how real the flowers looked. All credit to Jean.
Thanks once again to Jean for the stunning cake, and Amanda for starting the pay it forward event.
